A Vail Valley Legacy

More than four decades of trust, passed to the next generation

Carroll Tyler's path to the Vail Valley began far from the mountains of Colorado. Born in West Virginia, educated in New England, and for many years a resident of Rochester, New York, she moved to Vail in 1979 with her two children. That range of places and experiences shaped a broker known for perspective, warmth, and a genuine curiosity about the people she works with.

After settling in Colorado, Carroll served as director of marketing for area hotels and stayed active in local nonprofit organizations. In 1981 she joined Slifer Smith & Frampton, and listing and selling real estate full time has been her passion ever since. Across more than forty years she has guided families through their first mountain home, their forever home, and everything in between, earning a reputation for steadiness, candor, and a knowledge of the valley that only a lifetime here can give.

Her foundation was built early. Carroll graduated from Phillips Andover Academy and Smith College, completed graduate studies in education, and taught for several years before finding her way into real estate. She holds a real estate broker's license in the state of Colorado.

In 2004, John came home to Vail to follow his mother into the business. He joined Slifer Smith & Frampton and began learning the craft from the best brokers in the business. Two decades and more than $900 million in transactions later, he carries the same standards she set.

Today Carroll continues as a referring and consulting broker. When she points a client toward John, she is introducing them to someone who learned this business from her, at the same brokerage, with the same commitment to getting every detail right.

Home for Carroll is the top of Wildridge in Avon. Her daughter, Barrie, is an executive assistant with the Kitsap County 911 Center in Bremerton, Washington, and a mother of two; her son, John, lives in Singletree with his wife and two children. Both graduated from Vail Mountain School and went on to Eastern colleges. Where she once chased adventure through helicopter skiing and sailing, these days Carroll savors the valley closer to home: the Vail Farmers' Market, the wonderful local restaurants, and music and entertainment at Bravo! Vail and the Vilar Performing Arts Center. The Colorado mountains have always been, and will always be, home.
